Crypto news flash, the U.S. government’s digital dollar will be banned tonight under the CBDC restrictions in the Housing Bill. Under the Housing Bill expected to be passed, the Federal Reserve will not be allowed to issue its own digital dollar in the next four years. Republican lawmakers view this restriction as a threat to potential government surveillance, despite the fact that the U.S. has not yet made any substantive efforts to implement a digital dollar. The restriction is part of a bipartisan Congressional Affordable Housing Bill, which President Trump previously refused to sign. Although the bill as a whole was popular, Trump unexpectedly said at the last moment that he would not sign it, and demanded that Congress pass a new law requiring voters to provide citizenship and undergo identity checks.
