Golden Finance News reports that an AI writing startup headquartered in London, co-founded by a former DeepMind creative lead, has ended its stealth development phase and announced it has completed a $13 million seed round. The company is named Marker. This round was led by Index Ventures, with participation from Local Globe. Angel investors taking part include: Steve Newman, co-founder of Writely; Cal Henderson, co-founder of Slack; and Thomas Wolf of Hugging Face. The company said that its early test users have used the platform to write a wide range of content, including blog posts, Substack newsletters, business documents, memos, and novels. As “AI slop” becomes an increasingly serious concern, Marker’s CEO Steinback said: “We’re at a pivotal moment when people can choose the future of writing; I believe people will choose solutions that value writing craft rather than those that churn out low-quality content, severely eroding the essence of writing.” (Jin10)
