Golden Finance reported that OpenAI announced it will stop developing the AI browser Atlas on August 9. The company is integrating some of the browser’s features into the ChatGPT desktop app and a Chrome extension program. This is less than a year after it planned to launch ChatGPT Atlas in October 2025. This means OpenAI has abandoned plans to offer an AI browser aimed at challenging existing products such as Chrome; meanwhile, other companies still continue vying for the AI browser market, including Perplexity with its Comet browser and The Browser Company with Dia.
