Iran confirms the visit to Qatar, but demands that Qatar provide an explanation for the allegations regarding the Strait of Hormuz
BlockBeats message, July 10, citing Iran’s Tasnim News Agency: today, a Qatari political delegation arrived in Iran to hold consultations with Iranian officials. The purpose of Qatar’s visit to Iran is to strengthen its position as a mediator.
However, earlier Qatar lodged accusations with Iran over an incident in the Strait of Hormuz, after which U.S. forces launched large-scale attacks on a series of Iranian military and civilian targets on Wednesday and Thursday.
The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed regret over Qatar’s accusations, saying they are “questionable, violate the principles of good-neighborliness, and are unacceptable.” Therefore, Qatar should explain during this visit why, while clearly understanding the contents of Article 5 of the Islamabad Understanding Memorandum, it still attempted to cooperate with the United States to bypass the shipping routes designated by Iran, and why it was eager to accuse Iran before communicating with Iran at all.
