Asian stocks traded mixed, with South Korea up 2.5% to lead within the region; European stocks were lackluster in the early session.
Markets focused on SK hynix (SKHY.US) ADR, which was listed in the US on Friday (the 10th). In Asia-Pacific, major stock markets today saw a mixed performance. In China’s Mainland A-shares, after the afternoon, the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets turned lower, closing down 1% and 2.3% respectively. The ChiNext index’s decline widened, down 4.4%.
In Hong Kong stocks, the market once rose by nearly 470 points during the session, reaching a high of 24,499 points. In the afternoon, dragged down by A-shares, the gains narrowed; the market rose for the full day by 144 points, or 0.6%, closing at 24,175 points. Taiwan stocks closed down 379 points, or 0.8%, at 45,354 points. Japan’s Nikkei index closed up 813 points, or 1.2%, at 68,557 points.
Korean stocks closed up 2.5%, outperforming in the region; Samsung closed up 2.5%, while SK hynix fluctuated and edged down 0.3%. Star stocks closed up 0.65% to 5,469 points, repeatedly setting new record closing highs.

Dow futures were up by less than 0.1%, while S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq futures were down 0.1% and 0.4% respectively. The market expects that funds from the memory-chip sector may be deployed toward SK hynix ADR; in the memory-chip sector, trading before the open was lower, with Micron (MU.US) and SanDisk (SNDK.US) down 1.8% to 2.5% before the open.
In Europe’s major stock markets on Friday’s early session, there was a lack of direction, with the pan-European 600 index dipping by less than 0.1%. The UK FTSE 100 index edged down 3 points to 10,469 points. France’s CAC was steady at 8,326 points. Germany’s DAX fell 0.2% to 25,070 points. Italy’s FTSE MIB rose 0.5% to 52,626 points.
