Do you ever get this feeling: the money you make in crypto doesn’t feel like real money? Yesterday a friend told me he made three ten-thousand U last month on short-term trades, which comes out to more than 200,000 RMB after conversion. So how did he spend it? He treated people to meals, bought a watch, sent a bit to his girlfriend—then the other half he threw back in to open positions again. He said when he was spending it, he didn’t feel even a hint of heartache, like he was spending gaming coins.

This is actually pretty dangerous. Because if the money doesn’t feel like money to you, one day you’ll end up gambling with money you shouldn’t touch.

Crypto has a feature: it’s all numbers on a screen. When it goes up, a number just gets bigger. When it goes down, the number gets smaller. There’s no visceral feeling like counting banknotes. If you lose 10,000 RMB in cash, your hands might tremble because it’s real—taken straight out of your wallet. But if you lose 10,000 U, you might just frown a bit, take a sip of water, and then open another trade thinking you can flip it back.

So many people in this market lose far more than the amount they can realistically afford in real life. By the time they react, the hole is already huge.

There’s a simple, down-to-earth method that works pretty well. After every profit, force yourself to withdraw a portion and spend it on things you can see and touch. Have a good meal, buy something you’ve wanted for a long time, add a major item to the household. The goal is to make your brain recognize that the money is real, and spending it will hurt. Once you start feeling that pain, you’ll think twice before opening a position.

Another method is to convert it. To open a trade that costs tens of thousands of U, convert it into how many months of wages you’d have to earn. If that money is something you saved up from working hard, would you still toss it in so easily? After converting, you’ll get cold and calm.

This market is tailor-made to deal with people who have no sense of money. You treat it with indifference—then it’ll treat you with even more indifference.
