Japan’s Finance Minister: Plans to move ahead with lifting the ban on crypto ETFs in Japan

According to a report by Nikkei News on July 10, at the opening ceremony of the “OpenQUICK 2026” seminar hosted by the financial information services provider QUICK, Japan’s Finance and Financial Services Minister Kōzuki Katayama said in a keynote speech that, against the backdrop of the continued expansion of overseas crypto-asset ETF trading, “we hope to advance related research on allowing crypto-asset ETFs in Japan.” Japan is currently working on legislation to include cryptocurrencies for the first time within the regulatory framework of the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act.
