Many people trade futures/derivatives and, from the start, choose full margin (going all-in). The reason is simple: it’s resistant to volatility, and it’s not easy to get liquidated. $BTC

But the issue is that full margin isn’t a shield you can use to misuse your position sizing. $ETH
If you truly go all-in with 10x leverage, and a move goes against you, it’s not about losing a little—it’s your entire account going to zero directly. $LAB
I’ve seen many people who think all-in is safe: once their account has 5,000 USDT, they’ll risk going all at once—putting 4,800 USDT into a short-term trade.
Then the market jitters slightly, and the whole account gets liquidated, with no time to react.
You need to know that full margin is to help you stay alive longer, not to give you a reason to stake your life on volatility.
With the same 10x leverage, some people lose a bit and then cut losses and exit; others keep holding and “fight to the death” with the account—until, in the end, they blow up completely.
Why? The difference lies in position allocation.
Here’s a simple example:
If your account has 1,000 USDT and you only use 100 USDT to open at 50x leverage, then even if you’re wrong, you can still stop losses in time. The remaining funds can still keep you alive.
But if you directly throw 900 USDT in, then even if you only use 10x leverage, when the market jitters, the entire account gets buried inside.
So stop asking what leverage is “safe.” What you should think about is how much of your position you used in this trade—did you set a stop loss? If you got the direction wrong, can you afford to hold through it?
I’m doing contracts now, and I still use full margin, but I have a few hard rules:
Each trade must not exceed 20% of the total account
Set a stop loss, and keep losses within 3% of principal
Don’t mess around in the choppy range, and don’t add to positions impulsively due to temporary emotions
If you want to survive in contracts, you don’t survive by dodging risk—you survive by managing risk.
Full margin isn’t telling you to all-in at once; it gives you more flexibility to handle volatility.
