CoinWorld news, July 8, local time — Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever stated at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, that NATO cannot reach consensus with the United States on a military strike against Iran. He noted that this issue is not actually a NATO agenda item and does not contribute to NATO unity. De Wever pointed out that the collective defense clause in the North Atlantic Treaty stipulates joint defense when a member state is attacked, but it does not require all other member states to participate when one party unilaterally decides to attack another country. He said this is not in line with the spirit of NATO, and expecting NATO allies to participate in such actions is "unreasonable."
