Zcash major upgrade expected to activate at 8 PM Beijing time on July 28
BlockBeats, July 10 — Zcash core developer Sean Bowe said in a post on X that the Zcash Ironwood mainnet activation block height has been set and completed marking. All major organizations have committed to activating the NU6.3 upgrade at block height 3,428,143, with the expected time being 8:00 PM Beijing time on July 28.
According to previous information, this upgrade is prompted by the earlier Orchard pool vulnerability. The vulnerability may allow attackers to mint counterfeit ZEC in unlimited quantities, and because the Orchard pool has privacy features, the team is unable to determine whether any counterfeit ZEC was minted before the vulnerability was patched. The Ironwood upgrade will take two core measures: first, introducing a new privacy pool that uses the Orchard protocol, with the old pool being phased out; second, adding a control flag in the zero-knowledge proof circuit—when enabled, it can disable the function of transferring funds to other users within the pool, while retaining the change function.
