Meta considering renting AI computing power to external clients

Crypto.com news. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company is considering renting out some of its AI computing power to external customers, because the external quotes are so high that Meta believes renting out computing power may be more cost-effective than keeping it for internal use. He emphasized that Meta has not experienced excess computing capacity, and that it is still using all of its computing resources, noting that almost no one in the industry thinks they have enough computing power. Meta is studying two types of cloud services: first, hosting its own or other companies’ AI models and charging per call; second, directly selling raw computing power, in a model similar to AI cloud providers such as CoreWeave. This week, Meta has opened the Meta Model API and started charging for Muse Spark 1.1. Zuckerberg also said that SpaceX’s practice of renting computing power to external companies in the short term is “very interesting,” and Meta will evaluate similar high-priced deals as well.

Zuckerberg wants to have it both ways – using it himself while also renting it out, securing a stable cash flow.
