Abstract generation in progress
CoinWorld News, OpenAI's AGI Deployment CEO Fidji Simo is stepping down due to illness and transitioning to a part-time advisor role. She began a leave of absence three months ago due to a worsening chronic illness, and has confirmed that her recovery process is longer than expected. Simo is a key executive at OpenAI, second only to Sam Altman. She previously served as CEO of Instacart and joined OpenAI in 2025, overseeing product and business teams covering ChatGPT, Codex, and other operations. She went on leave in April this year due to a neuroimmune disease, originally planning to be away for just a few weeks. Since then, OpenAI President Greg Brockman has taken over product work, and Simo's responsibilities will be shared by Brockman, CFO Sarah Friar, and Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon. Simo stated that she has been living with a chronic illness for seven years, and will continue to serve as an advisor to OpenAI while participating in AI biomedical projects Chronicle BioAI and Coda Research.
