According to Bloomberg, U.S. Governor Josh Stein of North Carolina has signed the FY2026 budget, imposing a 6% fee on the net transaction fee income of prediction market platforms, making the state another after Kentucky and Illinois to tax prediction markets. The budget also raises the sports betting tax rate from 18% to 23% and grants the state tax authority new powers to audit sports betting users’ records.
