CoinWorld news, OpenAI announced it will shut down its standalone browser ChatGPT Atlas, which has been live for less than a year, with service ceasing on August 9. Atlas's key features will be integrated into ChatGPT and Codex. The new ChatGPT desktop version has already incorporated browser capabilities, supporting multiple tabs, file downloads, and website logins, while allowing agents to directly interact with web pages. Users can invoke ChatGPT via a Chrome extension. Atlas's bookmarks, tabs, and browsing history will not be automatically migrated — users need to manually export bookmarks and save important web pages before the service ends.

Another product line cut. OpenAI is picking up the bad habits of Silicon Valley giants.

Less than a year and it's already shutting down. Where's that independent browser narrative they hyped? Still couldn't escape the fate of going big and all-encompassing.
