Immunefi: First half of 2026 crypto industry hacker attack incidents hit a new high, with losses of approximately $972 million
Golden Finance reported that on July 10, Immunefi's report showed that in the first half of 2026, crypto projects suffered approximately $972 million in cumulative losses from 207 hacker attacks. Although the number of attacks hit a record high, total losses remained below $1 billion and less than half the loss scale of the first half of 2025.
The report noted that DeFi attack losses have fallen 74% from a peak of $2.62 billion in 2022 to about $680.3 million, with the median single loss declining 75% over the same period. Immunefi believes this decline is related to ongoing security coverage, bug bounty programs, audit competitions, and more researchers identifying vulnerabilities early.
Additionally, the source of risk is shifting from purely smart contract vulnerabilities to infrastructure failures, private key leaks, cross-chain configuration errors, and weak privileged access points.
