BlockBeats News, July 10 – According to Politico, Trump said the ceasefire has ended as Iran continues to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Subsequently, the U.S. military struck at least 170 military targets in Iran within 48 hours, while Iran launched counterattacks against U.S. military bases. Some Republican lawmakers are concerned that an escalation of the conflict will push up oil prices, exacerbate economic pressure, and affect this year's midterm elections. A House Republican lawmaker bluntly stated: "He is pushing us toward political destruction." The lawmaker believes Trump is more focused on the Iran issue than on the Republican Party's electoral situation.

Republican hawks support continued military action. Representative Don Bacon said the U.S. should maintain a strong response to Iran until it seeks peace. However, some Republican figures warned that rising oil prices could weaken voter support, making it difficult for the party to address the public's biggest concern—prices. Meanwhile, Congress also demands that the administration explain its plan for using the $67 billion in additional war funding. (Jin Shi)
