Abstract generation in progress

On July 9, the National Health Commission, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration jointly released the 2026 edition of the National Essential Drugs List. The new list has been updated and adjusted from the previous 685 drugs to 794 drugs, including 476 chemical drugs and biological products and 318 Chinese patent medicines, better meeting the basic medication needs of the public for disease prevention and treatment.

According to reports, relevant departments will further promote the management of essential drug allocation and use, enhance the standard usage capabilities of essential drugs, ensure that medical and health institutions at all levels can be adequately supplied and properly used, facilitate medication alignment, and enable the public to use the same drugs at grassroots medical and health institutions near their homes as those available at larger hospitals.
