Golden Finance reported on July 10 that according to Politico, Trump said the ceasefire had ended as Iran continued to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Subsequently, the U.S. military struck at least 170 Iranian military targets within 48 hours, and Iran launched counterattacks against U.S. military bases. Some Republican lawmakers fear that the escalation of the conflict will push up oil prices, exacerbate economic pressure, and affect this year's midterm elections. A House Republican lawmaker bluntly stated: "He is driving us toward political destruction." The lawmaker believes Trump is more focused on the Iran issue than on the Republican Party's electoral prospects. Republican hawks support continued military action. Rep. Don Bacon said the U.S. should continue to respond strongly to Iran until it seeks peace. However, some Republican figures warned that rising oil prices could weaken voter support, making it difficult for the Republican Party to address the public's most concerning issue of prices. Meanwhile, Congress also asked the administration to explain the use plan for the $67 billion in additional war funding.
