A Strike user stated that after receiving a Lightning Network transfer of approximately $5 via Wallet of Satoshi, the platform requested the payer's name, warning that the funds might otherwise be returned. The user questioned whether this requirement contradicts Bitcoin's privacy principles. In response, Strike CEO Jack Mallers said: "Unfortunately, UK regulatory requirements force us to do this. It does not represent our values, but rather compliance with local law in order to continue offering services in the UK."

Lightning was supposed to be fast and private, but now layer2 is also being shackled by compliance. Bitcoin's privacy narrative is increasingly like a fairy tale.

Regulatory compliance and privacy ideals are indeed hard to reconcile, and Strike's response can be considered candid.

Jack is being truthful, but user experience is a different matter; requiring tracing for just $5 is indeed absurd.
