Golden Finance reports that on July 9, Ebury analyst Matthew Ryan said the outlook for the British pound depends on whether prospective UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham delivers on his commitment to uphold fiscal rules. If Burnham keeps his promise, the pound is likely to be safe and sound. Any signs—even at the margins—that these rules are abandoned or distorted could trigger a disorderly sell-off of UK assets. If Burnham’s leadership position is confirmed around July 17, the market will have more information.
