CoinWorld news, citing Politico, reported that Trump said the ceasefire has ended because Iran continues to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Subsequently, the US military struck at least 170 military targets in 48 hours, and Iran retaliated against US military bases. Some Republican lawmakers worry that an escalation in the conflict will drive up oil prices, intensify economic pressure, and affect this year’s midterm elections. A House Republican lawmaker said bluntly: “He is driving us toward political destruction.” The lawmaker believes Trump is more focused on the Iran issue than on the Republican Party’s election situation. Republican hawks support continuing military action. Rep. Don Bacon said the US should respond firmly to Iran and continue until it seeks peace. However, some Republicans warned that higher oil prices could weaken voters’ support, making it difficult for the party to address the price issues that matter most to the public. Meanwhile, Congress is also demanding that the government explain its plan for the $67 billion in additional war funding.
