Mark Zuckerberg says exploring AI cloud business is reasonable because external market offers very high prices for Meta's computing power

In an interview with Bloomberg, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the external market is willing to pay very high prices to rent the company's AI computing power, to the point that Meta might be better off leasing out some of its compute rather than using it all internally.

He stressed that Meta needs as much computing power as possible and that he is not aware of any company in the industry that truly has "excess compute." However, he believes there is a commercial opportunity for Meta to sell access to hosted AI models through an AI cloud business, or directly lease out raw compute.

Zuckerberg also said Meta could choose to launch this business at any time if it wanted to. These remarks also respond to and refute previous market concerns that Meta has "excess compute."
