From TSMC foundry to 7GW computing power expansion, Meta's AI infrastructure ambitions can no longer be hidden. Iris is just the first step; the subsequent full-chain layout of memory, flash memory, and fiber optics is the real highlight.

Meta plans to mass-produce its self-developed AI chip "iris"
Meta plans to start production of its self-developed AI chip "iris" in September, part of the MTIA accelerator, to boost AI performance on Facebook and Instagram while reducing reliance on Nvidia and AMD. After six weeks of testing with no major issues, the chip will be co-designed with Broadcom and manufactured by TSMC. For expansion, Meta also aims to achieve 7GW of compute power by 2026 and increase that to 14GW by 2027, and has signed long-term supply agreements with Samsung, SanDisk, and Sumitomo Electric for memory, flash storage, and fiber optic equipment.
