Is a $130 billion valuation worth it? Behind Blue Origin’s fundraising, what capital is truly betting on is the next 20 years

When many people see a $130 billion valuation, they’ll ask: Is Blue Origin really worth that much?
If you look only at the current number of launches, it does lag behind SpaceX; if you look only at the revenue scale, it’s not as striking as the internet giants. But when capital invests in commercial space, it is never about how much money is made today—it’s about betting on the industry’s space over the coming decades.
The development path of commercial space is very similar to that of the internet. In the early stage, massive funding is needed to build infrastructure; the real returns come from subsequent, continuous operations. Rockets are just transportation tools—the real long-term value lies in the complete commercial ecosystem built around the orbit.
The $10 billion raised this time will mainly be used for mass production of the New Glenn rocket and the construction of orbital space stations. This means Blue Origin has set its sights on the future, not just adding a few more launch missions.
At the same time, many countries around the world are continuously increasing their space budgets, and demand keeps growing for satellite communications, remote sensing services, deep-space exploration, commercial space stations, and more. Commercial space has gradually evolved from research projects into a new economic field that is truly capable of industrial scale.
Bezos has always emphasized that humanity will need to enter space to develop future industries. In the past, many people considered this a far-off dream, but now more and more capital is starting to believe it could become an important direction for the next wave of technological revolution.
For investment institutions, a $130 billion valuation isn’t just buying today’s Blue Origin—it’s buying future influence in the space economy.
If commercial space continues to grow rapidly over the next ten years, then the valuation that looks expensive today may simply be a new starting point.
