I saw the incident of a big trader on Gate losing 1.7 million USD from theft — it seems absolutely outrageous when you read into it.

All security measures were breached.

If it were an insider at Gate, they shouldn't have been able to obtain such high-level permissions, unless the liveness detection for facial recognition was passed — and that permission level is extremely high. Someone managed to bypass the liveness check. Gate has released full records, but it cannot prove that its security system is healthy and safe.

Similarly, the user personally can't prove that they didn't withdraw the funds themselves or that it wasn't done by an acquaintance.

Traditional finance has the advantage that withdrawals must go to an account in the same name as the individual — from this perspective, it's a bit safer than crypto.

Anyway, the best course of action is to report it to the police.
