CoinWorld news, Meta announced the construction of a new AI data center in Sturgeon County, Alberta, Canada. This is Meta's first data center in Canada and its 33rd globally. The project involves an investment of over 13 billion CAD, with a scale of 1GW, mainly to support Meta's AI training and core products. During peak construction, the project will support over 3,000 construction jobs and will provide over 300 operational jobs once completed. The company will also invest about 60 million CAD in local infrastructure and community projects such as roads and water supply. The data center will rely on a new natural gas power plant, with a supporting Green Light Power Center scale of 932MW, expected to be operational in the second half of 2030. The project uses a closed-loop cooling system, and Meta states it will not directly draw local water sources.
