The U.S. military launched a new round of strikes on Iran on July 8-9. Explosions were heard at multiple ports in Iran's southern Hormozgan province, with 2 fishermen killed and 2 others injured and hospitalized. That night, Iranian air defense systems intercepted aerial targets in Bushehr, Bandar Abbas, and Qeshm Island.

U.S. Night Strikes: Missiles Hit Docks, 2 Fishermen Killed

According to information from the Iranian side early on July 9, the U.S. military continued to fire missiles at docks in Hormozgan province overnight. 2 fishermen were killed in the attack, and 2 others were injured and taken to hospital. The U.S. Central Command later confirmed that the U.S. military had begun carrying out more strikes on Iran.

Explosions were reported almost simultaneously in several locations in southern Iran: Bushehr province's air defense systems intercepted aerial targets, and coastal defense systems near Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island were also responding to U.S. strikes. Earlier, explosions were also reported in Sirik, Bandar Abbas, and Chabahar.

Trump Arrives in UK: "If You Strike Ships Again, We Will Hit Back Even Harder"

U.S. President Donald Trump left Turkey and arrived in the UK on the evening of July 8 local time. When discussing the strikes on Iran, he said they were "retaliation for Iran's bombing of ships the night before" and warned: "If Iran strikes ships again, the consequences will be much more severe."

After attending the NATO annual summit in Turkey on Wednesday, Trump flew to the UK on an older Air Force One rather than the new one. When asked if this was related to potential threats from Iran, he repeatedly mentioned he was an Iranian assassination target:

"I am the number one target on Iran's assassination list... I don't care, because I am doing my job... I would rather be number one on TikTok, but I am number one on the kill list."

Trump explained that the new Air Force One "is flying to Europe, going to one, two, or three of the larger bases where we can show it to people."

Iran Foreign Ministry Says U.S. Violated Memorandum of Understanding

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bagheri said on July 9 that the U.S. violated the framework of the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding by challenging the provisions for safe passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz and by carrying out "aggressive attacks" on Iran.

Bagheri pointed out that the memorandum was never based on mutual trust but on a "commitment-for-commitment" mechanism. Article 5 of the memorandum stipulates that Iran is responsible for formulating safety arrangements for navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, but unilateral U.S. actions challenge this clause. He stressed that Iran will resolutely defend its national interests and sovereignty.

Earlier, the U.S. Central Command announced on July 7 that it had begun launching a "series of powerful" strikes on Iran in response to Iran's attacks on 3 commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. A U.S. official revealed that this round of strikes was four to five times more intense than the one 10 days ago.
