Beijing time, July 9 – The latest reports indicate that FIFA President Gianni Infantino is suspected of violating the principle of neutrality and may face complaints from some organizations, which will be submitted to the IOC Ethics Committee.
According to *A Bola*, some organizations believe that Infantino has an overly close personal relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, which seriously deviates from the core principle in the Olympic Charter requiring members to maintain political and commercial independence.
As a member of the International Olympic Committee, Infantino's actions are seen as damaging the impartial image of sports organizations. In December 2025, Infantino's awarding of the FIFA Peace Award to Trump sparked widespread discontent and drew criticism from multiple parties, including European Parliament lawmakers and the Norwegian Football Federation. In February 2026, Infantino attended a peace council hosted by Trump, an action interpreted as a public endorsement of Trump.
Earlier, IOC President Kirsty Coventry was asked about Trump's phone call to Infantino, after which FIFA delayed the red card suspension of US forward Balogun. Coventry replied: "As far as I know, the Ethics Committee has not received any complaint on this matter. Obviously, if a complaint is received, we will review it."
According to the IOC website, "anyone" can provide information on "suspected" violations of the organization's ethical principles.
