Danish shipping giant Maersk announced on the 6th that it will allow some of its vessels to resume using the Suez Canal route as part of the "Gemini" cooperation network formed with Germany's Hapag-Lloyd. In a statement on the 6th, Maersk said: "Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd announce structural adjustments to the AE15 route under the 'Gemini' cooperation network, which will now pass through the Suez Canal instead of bypassing the Cape of Good Hope." "Gemini" is a shipping cooperation network jointly established by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, with the AE15 route connecting Asia, the Mediterranean, and Europe. A spokesperson for Hapag-Lloyd revealed that after adjusting the AE15 route, the overall shipping voyage is expected to be shortened by four weeks. Maersk stated that the two shipping giants' decision to resume the Suez Canal route "is the result of a comprehensive assessment of the security situation in the Red Sea region, and also marks a step toward gradually returning to the Suez Canal waterway." Both parties have formulated contingency plans, and the navigation plan will be adjusted at any time if the Red Sea situation deteriorates. (CCTV News)
