Jin10 Data July 9 – According to Axios, the White House is preparing for a possible firefight with Iran in the Strait of Hormuz that could last for days or even weeks. A US official revealed that the current escalation could last a day or two, a week, or a month, depending on whether Iran continues to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. "We need to teach them a lesson and let them know we are not to be messed with," the US official said. Diplomacy is currently at a standstill, and military pressure has once again become the core of Trump's strategy. US officials say the White House believes there is room for further escalation, as hundreds of oil tankers have left the Gulf through the Strait in recent weeks, easing internal government concerns that another conflict would immediately trigger a sharp spike in oil prices. A US official said the current escalation stems from the frustration of more radical factions within Iran's divided leadership, who believe the memorandum has brought no real benefits to Tehran. With hundreds of vessels using the southern shipping lane near the coast of Oman, Iran's leverage in the Strait of Hormuz is eroding.
Jin10 Data, July 9 – US President Trump told accompanying media today (July 9) while returning to the US aboard Air Force One, "Iran just called. They are very desperate to make a deal. I just don't know if they still deserve to make a deal." Trump said, "The US has already won militarily. Iran has nothing left." When asked, "If Iran is so desperate for a deal, why are they attacking merchant ships?" Trump replied, "Because they are a little crazy, out of control — but they are very desperate to make a deal."
Jin10 Data, July 9 - Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf said on social media on the 9th that the US still hasn't understood that bullying and betrayal are no longer "zero-cost" matters. The Strait of Hormuz can only be opened under "Iran's arrangement, not the US threat." He wrote: "If you strike, I will strike back. Stop futilely waving your fist, or you will only sink deeper."
