PBOC Continues Gold Purchases for 20 Consecutive Months

The People's Bank of China continued to increase its gold reserves in June. Data released by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange yesterday showed that the PBOC held 75.44 million ounces of gold in June, an increase of 480k ounces from May, marking the 20th consecutive month of gold buying, and the largest increase since October 2023. However, due to the decline in gold prices in June, the value of its gold holdings fell from $480k to $340.75B.
