Heavy rain in mainland China | Guangdong Provincial Hydrological Bureau issues first red flood alert of the year

Affected by upstream inflow, water levels in the Xijiang River continue to rise. The Guangdong Provincial Hydrology Bureau has issued the first red flood warning of this year.

At 8:00 a.m. today, the water level at the Xijiang Fengkai Jiangkou station (Jiangkou Town, Fengkai County, Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province) was 17.24 meters (warning level is 17.80 meters). Based on current rainfall and water conditions analysis, the water level is expected to reach the warning level around noon and rise to approximately 22.0 meters by tomorrow (8th) morning, exceeding the crest elevation of the old town levee in Jiangkou Street, Fengkai County, and will continue to rise thereafter.

In view of the current situation, the Guangdong Provincial Hydrology Bureau upgraded and issued a red flood warning for the Fengkai section of the Xijiang River at 8:00 a.m. today.

The Guangxi Hydrology Center also reported on the same day that it upgraded and issued a red flood warning. It said that according to hydrological monitoring, as of 7:00 a.m. today, 70 stations across 55 rivers in Guangxi, including the Yu River and its tributary Wusi River, Qian River, Xun River, Xijiang River, and Fangcheng River, were still exceeding warning levels by 0.01 to 7.46 meters.
