Wong Kam-fai arrested for suspected drunk driving | LegCo Monitoring Committee: Understands public concern, will handle seriously according to the Code of Conduct for Members
Legislative Councillor Wong Kam-fai was arrested on Monday evening (June 29) on four charges including drink driving and has been granted bail pending further investigation. The Legislative Council Monitoring Committee stated tonight (July 2) that it understands the public is very concerned about this incident and will handle cases involving the conduct of legislators seriously and strictly in accordance with the Legislative Councillors' Code of Conduct.
It is understood that the 66-year-old Wong Kam-fai was involved in a drink-driving incident at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on Monday evening, hitting two cars and then fleeing the scene. According to sources, after police arrived, Wong Kam-fai later returned to the scene but failed a breathalyzer test. Police arrested him on suspicion of "drink driving", and the case was handled as "careless driving", "failing to stop after a traffic accident", "failing to report a traffic accident", and "drink driving". He was granted bail pending further investigation and must report to the police in late July.
Three days later, the Legislative Council Monitoring Committee responded at around 7 pm today (July 2), stating:
The Legislative Council Monitoring Committee has always attached great importance to the conduct of legislators and also understands that the public is very concerned about this incident. The monitoring committee will handle cases involving the conduct of legislators seriously and strictly in accordance with the Legislative Councillors' Code of Conduct.

When asked by reporters about the incident at an event this afternoon, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Monitoring Committee Chen Zhenying said that the monitoring committee has only one spokesperson, which is the President of the Legislative Council, and asked the media to direct inquiries to the LegCo President. When further pressed on what the LegCo President thinks and when Wong Kam-fai will explain, he said he had no further comment.

In a reply to an online media inquiry today, Wong Kam-fai said:
