Multiple Japanese media outlets and individuals from various sectors have recently criticized Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's attendance at Diet deliberations and responses, questioning her "disregard for the Diet." According to Japan's Mainichi Shimbun, as of the 6th, Takaichi has attended intensive deliberations eight times in the current Diet session, totaling 29 hours and 36 minutes, which is only about 40% of the average attendance time of former prime ministers Yoshihide Suga, Fumio Kishida, and Shigeru Ishiba over the past five years. Furthermore, according to an agreement reached between Japan's ruling and opposition parties in 2025, a party leader discussion should be held once a month during the regular Diet session from April to June, but Takaichi has only attended once in May this year. The opposition parties pointed out in the Diet on the 6th that the legislative process in the current Diet has clearly slowed down: during the three regular Diet sessions from 2023 to 2025, the passage rate of government-submitted bills was close to 98%; while as the current session nears its end, the bill passage rate is only 73%.
