France looks the most like a champion; a balanced offense and defense is the biggest asset in the World Cup.

The top eight of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico have officially been decided: France, Morocco, England, Norway, Spain, Belgium, Argentina, and Switzerland will meet in the quarterfinals. Having made it this far, there is no such thing as "lucky advancement" – every team has endured high-intensity tests. Based on their overall performance so far, I still rank France first in my championship prediction list.
France's biggest advantage is not having superstar players, but rather a squad with no obvious weaknesses. The forward line boasts speed and finishing ability, the midfield can both organize and intercept, the defense is experienced, and the goalkeeper is in stable form. After entering the knockout stage, their transitions between offense and defense are smooth, and their defensive error rate is extremely low – this is precisely the most important trait of a World Cup champion.
The further the World Cup progresses, the less it is about flashy attacks and more about who can make fewer mistakes. Past World Cup champions, whether Germany, France, or Argentina, all possessed extremely high game control ability. France currently embodies this characteristic.
Of course, Morocco is by no means an easy opponent. This team is highly disciplined and tenacious in defense. Once France fails to score for a long time, the match could easily turn into a war of attrition. Therefore, France must remain patient and avoid exposing its defense by rushing into attacks.
On the other side, Spain, England, and Argentina also have the strength to win the title, but comparatively, France still holds a slight advantage in squad depth and key match experience.
If I were to rank the current championship probabilities for the top eight teams, I would choose: France ~30%, Spain ~22%, England 18%, Argentina 16%, Belgium 7%, Morocco 4%, Norway 2%, Switzerland 1%.
There has never been an absolute champion in the World Cup, but considering current form, squad completeness, and knockout-stage experience, France remains the team closest to the World Cup trophy.
