Coupang launches half-price discount sale on nourishing seafood.

Coupang is holding a promotional event until the 20th to sell discounted health-boosting seafood ingredients, such as abalone, octopus, nakji, and eel, covering more than 70 types.

Considering the characteristics of seafood, where freshness is everything, Coupang has strengthened its direct-from-the-source dispatch system. Abalone harvested from the southernmost waters, such as Wando in South Jeolla Province, is delivered nationwide within a day, and customers can receive the products before 7 a.m. the next morning through Rocket Fresh dawn delivery. This logistics optimization has led to a sharp increase in abalone procurement volume—rising from less than 30 tons in 2020 to surpass 210 tons last year—realizing economies of scale.

For Jeju-sourced seafood, Coupang has introduced an air direct-from-source delivery system to take freshness to the next level. Currently, Jeju live hairtail is airlifted and delivered via dawn shipping, and the company plans to continuously expand its air direct delivery lineup in the future to include items such as mackerel, yellowfin porgy, and Spanish mackerel, depending on fishing conditions.

According to Korea Data Agency, last month’s seafood price increase rate was 3.7%, exceeding the overall consumer price increase rate of 3.2%. At a time when the burden of everyday dining costs is intensifying, Coupang’s large-scale discount event is expected to be a practical measure to ease household pressure during the Boknal season, when demand for health-boosting meals surges.

Coupang said it will put every effort into supply chain management so consumers can enjoy high-quality K-health-boosting meal products without burden.
