BlockBeats News, July 8, according to WSJ, the Trump administration has recently directly pressured major supermarket chains such as Walmart, Kroger, and Albertsons to cut beef prices during the U.S. Independence Day peak shopping season in order to ease food inflation pressures.

Subsequently, Walmart announced price reductions for thousands of products, with ground beef prices lowered by up to 12%. Trump then posted that Walmart cut prices “at the request of the government,” and urged other retailers to follow suit. This action is part of the Trump administration’s efforts to control inflation.

In addition to pushing for lower food prices, Trump had previously called for reducing gasoline prices, capping credit card interest rates, and lowering drug prices, hoping to ease voters’ dissatisfaction with high prices ahead of the midterm elections. However, the U.S. cattle herd inventory is at a 75-year low, and tight supply continues to drive up beef prices. In May, U.S. ground beef prices rose 12% year over year, indicating that food inflation pressure has not been fully alleviated.
