Just months after the jewelry heist at the Louvre in Paris, another museum in France has been "visited" by thieves, with millions of euros worth of jewelry stolen. The burglary took place at the Lalique Museum in Wingen-sur-Moder, northeastern France. This museum, opened in 2011, was built by the French national treasure crystal glass art brand Lalique to commemorate its founder, jewelry and glassware master René Lalique. It houses over 650 Art Nouveau jewelry pieces, Art Deco glassware, and contemporary crystal artworks. Quoting investigators, Agence France-Presse reported on the 5th that a group of masked thieves broke into the museum around 5:30 a.m. that day, smashed their way in, and headed straight for the jewelry exhibition room, shattering six display cases. After the alarm sounded, the first person on the scene was a cleaning lady, who immediately called the police. The investigator said the criminals stole about 20 exhibits, with a value "likely close to 4 million euros." (Xinhua)
