Nexen Tire is taking the lead in the digital mobility market by transforming tires from simple consumables into core data-driven assets.

The mobility industry has recently been trending toward integrating RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology into tires to manage every stage of the process — from production and distribution to maintenance and recycling — through data. In step with this trend, Nexen Tire joined GDSO in January 2024 and has since been working alongside global companies on data standardization. As tires evolve into “connected assets” that collect and manage data, this represents a new business model that encompasses not only manufacturers but also fleet operators and regulatory authorities.

The core of the digital strategy Nexen Tire is pursuing lies in establishing an individual identification system for tires to maximize efficiency across the entire value chain. Moving away from conventional analog management and adopting digital product identification technology makes product history management more transparent and dramatically improves the accuracy of logistics and inventory management.

In practice, Nexen Tire is actively voicing its position in establishing key technical standards — including tire lifecycle tracking and streamlined data exchange — through its involvement with GDSO. This goes beyond internal corporate innovation; it is work aimed at creating common standards and frameworks applicable across the global market, and is analyzed as an essential foundation for future integration with smart infrastructure.

Nexen Tire recently participated in ‘The Tire Cologne 2026,’ a global tire exhibition held in Germany, where the company unveiled its achievements to date and future roadmap. At the event, Nexen Tire drew attention from industry stakeholders by introducing data-driven mobility solutions integrated with connected vehicles and smart city infrastructure.

The roadmap presented by the company includes concrete measures for realizing sustainable mobility. This encompasses tracking tire wear conditions and replacement cycles in real time to prevent safety incidents, as well as tracing the collection and recycling routes of end-of-life tires to contribute to carbon neutrality.

A Nexen Tire representative stated that the future of mobility depends on reliable data exchange across the value chain, adding that the company will actively contribute to establishing digital standards that drive transparency and innovation in the tire industry through its participation in GDSO.
