Polymarket Hit With New Lawsuit Alleging Breach of Contract in Strategy Bitcoin Sale Market - Crypto Economy
On July 3, traders William Wood and Thomas Bush filed a lawsuit against Polymarket in the New York Supreme Court. The formal complaint charges the prediction platform, its CEO Shayne Coplan, and its CMO Matthew Modabber with alleged breach of contract and deceptive practices. The legal conflict originated after the platform resolved as “No” a binary bet on whether the company Strategy would sell Bitcoin before May 31, despite an official 8-K filing with the SEC confirming the sale of 32 BTC during that period.
The transparency of decentralized markets is placed under scrutiny by this case. Polymarket introduced last-minute technical clarifications that required public confirmation of the event before the deadline, ignoring that the regulatory document was published days later but validating the transaction within the set timeframe. The plaintiffs demand the payment of $1.00 per winning share and legal costs.
Now, Polymarket must answer before the state courts of New York, while the sector evaluates the impact this litigation will have on user trust in resolution oracles.
