Smoking|Foreign woman smokes in MTR area, passenger's reminder ignored

The original poster (OP) titled the post "Subway Encounter," stating that at around 12:00 noon on June 25, near Exit A of Quarry Bay MTR station but still within the MTR area, they saw a foreign woman smoking while looking at her phone, seemingly checking information. The OP politely reminded her in English that smoking is not allowed here and asked her to move outside to smoke, but the woman was unmoved.

The OP was shocked by the foreign woman's reaction, saying, "Don't know where she's from, doesn't understand English," and joked, "My English is not good, but her English is even worse," and reluctantly gave up trying to stop her.

Smoking|Netizens furious: She's just pretending not to understand. MTR By-laws impose a fine of $5,000

The foreign woman's behavior angered netizens, who believe she was not unable to understand but deliberately avoiding it, criticizing her lack of public morality. They commented, "She's obviously pretending not to understand. If I saw her doing that twice and she pretended not to understand, I'd snatch her cigarette, throw it on the ground, and give a big cross gesture," "It's probably not about the English, maybe you were too polite," and "You've experienced it, thank you."

According to Section 23 "Prohibition of smoking" of the Hong Kong Railway By-laws (Chapter 556B), where smoking is prohibited by notice in any other part of the railway premises, no person shall smoke or carry a lighted pipe, cigar, or cigarette, or any uncovered flame in that part. Offenders are liable to a fine of $5,000.
