Wu said that Galaxy Research indicates that OP_RETURN transactions currently account for approximately 3.8% of Bitcoin block disk space daily, with OP_RETURN transactions containing more than 80 bytes of usable data accounting for only about 0.016%. Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy Digital, stated that since the release of Bitcoin Core v30, the space occupied by OP_RETURN in blocks has not significantly increased, and even though OP_RETURN transactions exceeding 80 bytes have grown slightly, their share remains below 0.1%. He believes that given the limited practical impact of such prune-able transactions, BIP-110 is an overly aggressive and disruptive response.
