British Maritime Agency: Threat Level in Hormuz Raised to "Severe"

Jinshi Data, July 8th - The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that three tankers were attacked near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, raising the maritime threat level in the region to "Severe," the second-highest level. According to the UKMTO, an unnamed LNG carrier was hit by an unknown object on the port side of its engine room while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire. Another very large crude carrier was struck by an unknown object while leaving the strait, and the vessel subsequently continued to its destination port with no reports of casualties. The third tanker was attacked near the Musandam Peninsula in Oman, resulting in minor structural damage. The UKMTO stated that the likelihood of "deliberate hostile actions" has increased in the current environment, navigation disruptions persist, and it reminded relevant vessels to remain highly vigilant. The agency noted that Iran's Revolutionary Guard continues to engage in verbal warnings and navigation interference, particularly targeting vessels with their Automatic Identification Systems activated.
