Anthropic's 'Claude Cowork' expands to web and mobile devices, transforming into an all-around AI virtual colleague.
The AI agent war has officially and fully entered the general office! According to a report by TechCrunch today (7th), Anthropic's AI agent tool "Claude Cowork," designed specifically for knowledge workers, has officially announced its expansion to web and mobile devices. This application, previously limited to desktops, has now evolved into an "all-purpose virtual colleague" that seamlessly integrates across devices and automatically executes tasks in the background. Data further shows that up to 33.4% of users employ it for business process operations, far exceeding software development, signaling that AI tools have officially transitioned from being engineers' exclusive domain to an enterprise-wide productivity engine.

As generative AI development enters deeper waters, the battleground for tech giants has shifted from "who has the smartest chatbot" to "who can truly help you get your work done."
According to the latest TechCrunch report dated July 7, 2026, renowned AI unicorn Anthropic announced that its agent tool Claude Cowork, designed for general knowledge work, is now expanding to mobile devices and web platforms. Users subscribed to the "Max" plan can experience this new cross-platform feature.
From Coding to All-Round Administration: Building a "Virtual Colleague" Across Platforms
Claude Cowork first launched as a desktop application in January 2026, with its operational logic heavily inspired by the developer tool Claude Code. However, this cross-platform update has completely redefined Cowork with a new positioning similar to an "agentic administrative coworker."
With multi-platform support, users can now initiate a complex task on their office desktop computer, then receive progress updates via their phone while commuting. The key breakthrough is that even if the user's laptop is turned off, Cowork continues to operate in the cloud background and proactively issues requests when human decisions are needed. For example, you can instruct it to "prepare the Monday morning client meeting," and Claude will automatically read relevant emails, historical meeting records, and latest news, compile a presentation, and draft follow-up email drafts that haven't been sent yet, allowing you to easily review them over coffee.
Additionally, Anthropic recently launched Claude Tag — a virtual team member residing in the enterprise communication software Slack. These moves indicate that Anthropic is actively embedding its AI products deep into enterprises' daily workflows.
Claude Cowork Early Enterprise Usage Data Revealed
To break the stereotype that "AI agents are primarily for people who can't code to write code," Anthropic officially released early usage data from late May this year, covering over 600k organizations and 1.2 million anonymous conversations. The results show that the true major application actually lies in traditional business scenarios:
| Task Application Category | | --- | Share | Primary Use Scenarios and Departments | | --- | --- | --- | | Business Process Operations | 33.4% | Consolidating scattered information into reports, creating new employee onboarding checklists, reconciling spreadsheets. Primarily in Finance, HR, and Administrative departments. | | Content Creation and Copywriting | 16.4% | Drafting content, creating slides, planning social media posts and business proposals. Primarily in Marketing and Management roles. | | Software Development | 8.7% | Code writing and debugging. Although this is the most attention-grabbing area for AI, it has the lowest share in Cowork's daily applications. |
Agent War Heats Up: Competing for the Saying of "Actually Getting Work Done"
Anthropic officials stated in the report: "Although programming remains the most eye-catching application of AI, we clearly see that the usage of AI in daily business work is rapidly increasing."
The "Agent wars" in the office, ignited jointly by Anthropic and competitor OpenAI, are undergoing a qualitative shift in core logic. Just as OpenAI's Codex was originally a developer tool but is now widely used by non-technical personnel for spreadsheets and data analysis, Anthropic's full push of Claude Cowork to mobile and web platforms is precisely to declare that Claude is no longer just a simple chatbot or developer plugin, but a company-wide productivity platform that can fight alongside humans.
