Microsoft is replacing OpenAI and Anthropic with its own AI in some applications.
BlockBeats news, July 8, Microsoft is accelerating the push for AI autonomy to reduce reliance on external models and costs. According to insiders, some office applications such as Excel and Outlook have begun using Microsoft's self-developed MAI model to process AI requests, currently completing tens of thousands of calls per week. Previously, these applications relied more on OpenAI and Anthropic models.
Although MAI still accounts for a relatively small proportion of overall AI calls, it shows that Microsoft is gradually deploying its self-developed model in core products. Microsoft's AI head Mustafa Suleyman previously stated that the company's goal is to reduce and eventually eliminate spending on Anthropic models. In addition to office software, the MAI model has been integrated into GitHub Copilot, and the self-developed speech-to-text model will be applied to products such as Teams in the coming months.
As Microsoft's favorable partnership with OpenAI gradually expires, the company is accelerating the construction of its own AI capabilities to enhance bargaining power and further reduce inference costs.
