BlockBeats news: On July 7, according to The Information, the Chinese AI company ZHIPU AI (ZHIPU) is considering designing its own AI chips. Insiders said that, as demand for its GLM series open-source AI models is growing rapidly, and computing resources are becoming increasingly constrained due to U.S. export controls, ZHIPU AI is evaluating an in-house chip solution.

ZHIPU AI is headquartered in Beijing and is one of China’s leading AI labs, and its GLM series open-source models have attracted market attention. Three people who are directly familiar with the relevant plans said ZHIPU AI has recently made preliminary contact with some Chinese chip design companies, asking about the possibility of jointly developing customized AI processors.
