A Qatar LNG carrier was attacked as it left the Strait of Hormuz, putting US-Iran ceasefire arrangements to the test.

Jinse Finance reports that on July 7, an LNG carrier was hit by a projectile near the coast of Oman while exiting the Strait of Hormuz. This incident has heightened concerns in the shipping industry about the safety of the waterway, while also testing the agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at preventing such attacks. According to sources familiar with the matter, the Al Rekayyat was struck in the early hours of Tuesday. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident. An alert issued by security consulting firm EOS Risk Group confirmed that the attack occurred approximately 8 nautical miles (15 kilometers) east of Limah, Oman, after which a fire broke out on the vessel, and the incident was characterized as a drone or missile strike. Ship tracking data shows that the vessel, owned by Qatari state-owned shipping company Nakilat, appeared to have its transponder turned off at the time of the incident. The UK Maritime Trade Operations office had previously issued an alert but did not disclose the name of the vessel involved. Neither QatarEnergy nor Nakilat responded to requests for comment.
