US M&A Total Reaches Record High of $1.45 Trillion in First Half of 2026, Up 75% Year-on-Year

On July 7, data from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) revealed that the total value of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) involving US companies reached $1.4467 trillion from January to June 2026 (as of June 24, including partial contributions), marking a 75% year-on-year increase and setting a new record for the highest M&A activity in the first half of the year since data tracking began in 2002. The total value of announced M&A transactions in the US for the first half of 2026 has reached an all-time high for the same period. The ongoing integration of companies in the technology and energy sectors is being driven by the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). Additionally, the regulatory relaxations under the Trump administration have further fueled the M&A boom.
