Golden Finance News reported that on July 7, the Ministry of Communications, Technology and Innovation of Sierra Leone (MoCTI), Bhutan National Digital Identity Company (Bhutan NDI), and the SIGN Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly design, develop, and implement Sierra Leone’s national digital identity platform. The platform leverages open-source technology and verifiable credentials that comply with W3C standards, enabling citizens to securely prove and manage their own identities while maintaining strict requirements for privacy, security, and data sovereignty. Under this collaboration, Sierra Leone’s MoCTI will provide strategic leadership, policy development, and coordination among government agencies; Bhutan NDI will supply its experience with a mature national digital identity architecture and an open-source identity framework; and the SIGN Foundation will be responsible for system design, solution architecture, and technical implementation.
