Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has received the highest grade for three consecutive years in the government’s disaster management assessment.

On the 7th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced the results of the “2023 Disaster Management Evaluation,” conducted for 340 disaster management responsible institutions nationwide. In this evaluation, KHNP was named among the excellent institutions, the top grade in the energy sector. Introduced in 2005, this assessment is widely regarded as the most authoritative comprehensive indicator for diagnosing key capabilities across disaster management stages of central ministries, local governments, and public institutions.

KHNP explained that this performance was driven by its field-oriented, practical response capabilities. In particular, during last March’s large-scale wildfire, close cooperation with government agencies to protect power generation facilities and safeguard public safety was a decisive factor for the additional points. KHNP did not stop at response efforts; it also separately制定ed a wildfire response manual to further enhance its company-wide response system.

With this selection, KHNP has achieved a “triple crown” in the field of disaster management. It had already received the top grade for three consecutive years as well in the previously conducted Disaster Response Safe Korea Training Evaluation and the Disaster Management Evaluation under the National Core Infrastructure Protection Plan.

Kim Sang-woo, head of KHNP’s Safety Management Division, emphasized, “This achievement is the result of actively implementing the government’s disaster management policies, with safety as the top priority,” adding, “Going forward, we will continue to strengthen our management capabilities to match the increasingly diverse disaster environment and do our best to fulfill our fundamental mission of ensuring stable energy supply.”
